1,800 miners caught underground in South Africa now freed

The department of mineral resources of south Africa states all 1,800 miners who had been captured have been freed.

Mining firm Sibanye-Stillwater on Tuesday stated some railings which were being transported underground in the Thembelani shaft in Rustenberg came and fell down the shaft that the miners use. It said the miners were safe without any severe injuries.

After testimonials and several hours, workers began to be drawn up. The company had said that an adjoining shaft could be used if necessary.

The Associated of Mineworkers and Construction has voiced its concern.
